What is a job? Is it the nine to five hustle that you do every day to get paid at the end of the month? Or is it the entrepreneural hustle of solving problems and making money in the process. In a manner of speaking, those are jobs; but is that all there is to it? Some may say they are still students, so they have nothing to contribute. That notion is wrong; you have a bigger contribution than you can imagine.

Depending on where you are in life at this time, certain roles and responsibilities have been placed on your shoulders. From family roles, to community roles, to work roles, we all have a job to do.

Many of the issues facing us both collectively and individually are because we have not done our jobs. If the politicians did their jobs, our social contract would be a lot better. If our security agencies did their jobs, we would not live with certain fears. I could go on and on, there is more than enough blame to go round. If you that is reading this faced your job, you would benefit not only yourself and your family, but in the long run, your community and your country.

So what is your job? It is to make the best use of the opportunities you have been given. To live at peace with all people and avoid unnecessary conflict. To follow the law without fear or favor. To not make other people miserable for your personal benefit. To educate yourself and make informed choices. The list goes on and on; it’s not rocket science.

We cannot keep on blaming everything under the sun for our problems when we have not done what we ought. Look inwards, when you do your job, we all would be better for it.
